Berton "Budd" SchnarrBerton G. "Budd" Schnarr, 80, of Lewistown died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Bushnell, a son of Gustave Sr. and Bertha Brown Schnarr. He married Nelda Lee Klinedinst on Sept. 6, 1947, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Nancy (and Mark) Chenoweth of Lewistown; two brothers, Gustave Jr. (and Rosalie) of Lewistown and Harold (and Willa) of Canton; and six sisters, Geraldine Hilton and Genevieve (and Lewis) Belville, both of Lewistown, Betty (and Rhudy) Wilson of Alabama, Darlene (and Richard) Heffren of Florida, Patty (and Robert) McCloskey of Iowa and Creta (and Richard) Harper of Chillicothe.

A member of Lewistown American Legion, he served as an apprentice seaman with the Coast Guard in 1943.

A member of United Auto Workers Local 974, he was an oiler at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria for more than 30 years, working in Building KK until retiring in 1980. He also was an auxiliary policeman for Fulton County Emergency Services & Disaster Agency, was a farmer, small engine repairman and "shade tree mechanic."

He was a boxing judge for the Silver and Golden Gloves in Canton.

Services were held Saturday at Woodland Church of the Brethren in rural Astoria with Rev. Kevin Kessler and Rev. Leonard Leslie officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in rural Astoria. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
