Charles F. Pittman, 77, of Astoria died at 7:04 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Smithfield, a son of Arthur J. and Leta F. Meiler Pittman. He married Roxie F. Parsons on Aug. 11, 1950, in Eureka. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Dale (and Linda) of Astoria; two daughters, Camilla (and Ronald) Southerd of Astoria and Roxanna (and Dan) Cole of Elkhart, Ind.; two brothers, Richard of Colchester and Robert (and Marianne) of Blacksburg, Va.; three sisters, Maralea (and Phillip) Kessler of League City, Texas, Elizabeth (and Ethan) Gramm of Orlando, Fla., and Barbara Miller of Astoria; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Arthur "Jack".

A Korean War Army veteran, he served from 1950 to 1952 in Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment, with the rank of sergeant.

He worked at Alexander Lumber Co. for 16 years, retiring in 1999. He also was a Woodland Township Trustee and a lifelong farmer.

He was a charter member of Smithfield Church of the Nazarene and Astoria Church of the Nazarene.

Services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Dan Cole officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in rural Astoria, where military rites will be accorded by Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Church of the Nazarene.
