Arthur J. Pittman Of Astoria Dies

Arthur J. Pittman, 83, of Astoria, died at 12:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 1980, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Sept. 22, 1897 in Putman Township, Fulton County, a son of Frank and Rose Smith Pittman. He married Leta M. Mellier on Nov. 27, 1919 at Smithfield. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1975.

Mr. Pittman was a member of the Astoria Church of the Brethren, on the Board of the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation and the State of Illinois Board of Soil and Water Conservation.

Survivors include five sons, Howard T. Pittman of McLean, Va., Richard M. Pittman of Colchester, Charles F. Pittman of Astoria, Robert C. Pittman of Champaign and Arthur J. Pittman of Ipava; three daughters, Mary Kessler of Akron, Ohio, Elizabeth Gramm of Palmyra, Pa., and Barbara Miller of Astoria; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Carroll Pittman of Sheridan, Ore.

Two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Astoria Church of the Brethren with Rev. Arlen Longanecker officiating. Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery near Smithfield.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.
