Harold Kinkead

Harold W. Kinkead, 94, of Rushville died at 4:30 a.m. Feb. 17, 2009, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

He was born Sept. 6, 1914, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, a son of Roy B. and Edie Weese Kinkead. He married Mary Louise Irwin on Oct. 26, 1940, in Keokuk, Iowa. She died Aug. 27, 1998.

He also was preceded in death by one son, John Kinkead; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Surviving are one daughter, Sally (and Gene) Ellis of Rushville; one brother, Herbert Kinkead of Canton; one sister, Betty Maxwell of Springfield; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He worked for the WPA building roads at Camp Ellis in Ipava during World War II. He worked at Hiram Walker Brewery in Peoria. He moved to Schuyler County and worked for Pickenpaul Garage in Rushville.

He moved to the Astoria area and worked at Bucher Apple Orchard, where he also farmed; and worked for Mummert Seed Company; Cappy Moose in a service station in Astoria, Fulton County Highway Department, Astoria Laundry Mat and Dairy Dipper. He moved to Rushville and worked for Len Allen Autobody and Hardee’s.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.
