William Jones

Aged Summum Resident Dies

William F. Jones, a well known and highly respected citizen, died at his home in Summum on Friday following a prolonged illness, aged 82 years, one month and 16 days.

Mr. Jones was born Jan. 23, 1867 in Beloit, Kans., a son of Joseph and Ann Littleton Jones. He came to Illinois 56 years ago and located near Ipava. He followed the carpenter's trade and also engaged in farming.

In the year 1892 he was united in marriage to Hattie Elizabeth Weese. To this union was born nine children, three of whom preceded him in death. Surviving are the widow and six children, namely: Harry Jones, Greenview; Mrs. Cora Morse, Ipava; Don Jones, Astoria; Mrs. Lulu Parr, Vermont; Mrs. Ila Walraven, Canton; Russel Jones, Lewistown; two brothers, John Jones, Oak, Neb.; and Harry Jones, Porterville, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Romine, Porterville, Calif.; and Mrs. Amanda Mannon, Texas.

He was a member of the Christian church.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Christian church in Summum, conducted by Rev. Fred Thompson. The Astoria lodge, Knights of Pythias, of which he was a member, conducted ritualistic services at the church. Burial was in the Summum cemetery.
