Russell Jones

Russell W. Jones, 83, of Lewistown, died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Graham Hospital emergency room in Canton.

He was born Jan. 27, 1914, in rural Summum, a son of Will and Hattie Elizabeth Weese Jones. He married Mary Kathryn Bainter on Dec. 13, 1933, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gilbert (Charlotte) Noland of Lewistown and Mrs. Larry (Peggy) Cook of Canton; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

He was a truck driver for Bainter and Jones Trucking for several years. He worked for Marion Coal Mine, Astoria Rock Quarry and also was a farmer in rural Lewistown. He retired in 1991 after 25 years as Lewistown Township road commissioner. He was a former alderman. He worked part time at Weirauch Greenhouse. He was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church, where he was a deacon. He was a former member of Odd Fellows Lodge.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Henry Memorial Home with Rev. Lester Beaman officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the memorial home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
