Harold HorwedelHarold Horwedel, 85, of Vermont died at 7:45 p.m. March 18, 2015, at Wesley Village in Macomb.

He was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Vermont, a son of Bernard and Leona Aten Horwedel. He married Mary Green on March 6, 1955, in Peoria Heights. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Linda (and Ken) Miller of Coal City and Lori (and Bruce) McCreight of Brimfield; one brother, Merle (and Ruth Ann) Horwedel of Buda; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steve Horwedel; and one sister, Mary Musselman.

He was a farmer and rural mail carrier.

He served as a staff sergeant in the Korean War, where he received the Bronze Star Medal.

He was a graduate of last class of Vermont High School before consolidation.

He was a member of Vermont Christian Church where he served on the church board, Eldorado Township board, Rushville Flying Club, served on VIT School Board and the Vermont American Legion.

Services were held Monday at his church with Pastor Dave Vandeman officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
