Mary MusselmanMary E. Musselman, 81, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Vermont, died Aug. 29, 2014, in Florida.

She was born Oct. 28, 1932, in Vermont, a daughter of Bernard and Leona Aten Horwedel. She married William “Bill” Musselman on June 16, 1957. He survives.

Also surviving are two brothers, Harold (and Mary) Horwedel of Vermont and twin Merle (and Ruth Ann) Horwedel of Buda; and many nieces and nephews.

She grew up on the family farm near Vermont.

She attended elementary school in a one-room school (Mud Acre) and then graduated from VIT High School in Vermont. She took dancing and acrobat lessons from an early age and started a dance school during her high school days and continued this for many years. She graduated college from Western Illinois University where she was a cheerleader all four years and Homecoming Queen her senior year. After graduating with honors with a major in physical education, she taught at Toulon High School and McMurray College in Jacksonville.

After her marriage to Bill, they moved to Sebring, Fla., in 1963. She continued her education by obtaining a masters degree and continued her teaching career, first in Lake Placid High School and then Sebring Middle School and South Florida Community College until her retirement.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vermont Cemetery with Pastor Dave Vandeman officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
