Kenneth Hunter

Kenneth E. Hunter, 70, of Macomb, formerly of Vermont, died at 10:40 a.m. March 2, 2014, at The Elms in Macomb.

He was born July 22, 1943, in Rushville, a son of Harry and Stella Derry Hunter. He married Phyllis Parry in Industry. He later married Sandra Thomas on Dec. 9, 1969, in Galesburg. He later married Betty J. Munson on March 11, 1977, in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Scott Parry of Forsythe, Mont., Troy (and Brenda) Hunter of Ipava, Brad (and Evonne) Hunter of Vermont and Warren Lee Hunter of Missouri; four daughters, Ketra (and Jeff) Lundeen of Eagle River, Alaska, Tina (and Jeff) Knuth and Tonya (and George) Waugh, both of Galesburg, and Becky Spitzia of Monmouth; three sisters, Shirley McCombs of Petersburg, Nelda Schisler of Springfield and Susan (and Larry) McFarlin of Havana; one brother, Larry Hunter of Sycamore; one half-sister, Eleanor Lee Hunter of Florida; 25 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Jeff Hunter and Kenneth Hunter Jr.; three brothers, Harry Jr., Charles and Donnie Hunter; and two sisters, Doris Martin Ebbing and Linda Moon.

He worked at McCombs Skelly Gas Station in Vermont, was janitor at Gales Convalescent Court in Galesburg, attendant at Conoco Gas Station in Galesburg and a houseparent at Mooseheart Childrens Home in Mooseheart, where he retired. He later worked as an assistant manager at Bridgeway, Inc. in Missouri.

He attended VIT High School and was a member of Moose Lodge.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Jon Sibley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services with inurnment in Vermont Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to The Elms in Macomb to plant a tree in Kenneth’s memory.
