Charles C. Hunter, 68, of Riverton died at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at St. John's North in Springfield.

He was born May 7, 1934, in Ray, a son of Harry Clayton and Stella Marie Derry Hunter. He married Mable "Midge" Proctor on Dec. 26, 1983, in Riverton. She died in 1995.

He also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Surviving are two stepsons, John Proctor of Waverly and Mark Proctor of Sherman; two daughters, Karen Williams of Oceanside, Calif., and Katherine Gordor of Estelline, S.D.; one stepdaughter, Rebbecca Whitlock of Springfield; five sisters, Susan McFarlin of Havana, Doris Ebbing of Osage Beach, Mo., Shirley McCombs of Petersburg, Nelda Schisler of Springfield and Linda Moon of Booneville, Ark.; one stepsister, Eleanor McFarland of Bradenton, Fla.; three brothers, Donnie of Houston, Kenneth of Osage Beach and Larry of Montgomery; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was a Korean War Navy veteran and a member of VFW Post 5038 in Riverton.

He worked at TJX Co. at Zayres and Mitch Murch's Maintenance Co. at Target, retiring in 1998 as a supervisor.

He then worked at the Parkway Pub.

He formerly owned and operated a Standard station in California.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4361.

He attended Methodist churches.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Bisch & Son Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery in Williamsville.
