Darlene Hood

Darlene W. Hood, 84, of Frederick, died at 12:38 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born Jan. 27, 1915, in Fulton County, a daughter of Walter and Hattie Mae Derry Weese. She married Charles David Hood Sr. on June 12, 1937, in Rushville. He died July 11, 1993. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Clyde, James, Sheldon, Merritt and Marshall Weese and three sisters, Ila Hunnicut, Artha LaPreze and Muriel Markley.

Surviving are one son, Charles “Dave” Hood Jr. of Rushville; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Betty) Bennett of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Jon (Mary Jane) Davis of Frederick; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Weese of Cuba; and one sister, Ida Clanin of Astoria.

She worked in the kitchen at Camp Ellis during World War II. She also worked at Mickelberry’s in Rushville. For 17 years, she worked in the housekeeping department at Schmidt Memorial Hospital in Beardstown. She was a member of the Frederick Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Services were held Sunday at Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. Mary Belew officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
