Dwayne DannerDwayne “Shorty Bill” W. Danner, 92, of Astoria died at 11:55 p.m. Feb. 5, 2020, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born April 30, 1927, in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, a son of Lester and Lola Shawgo Danner. He married Ruth Hamm on March 25, 1950, in Rushville. She preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 2011.

He also was preceded in death by two infant siblings; and one brother, Loren Danner.

Surviving are one son, Neil (and Wendy) Danner of Astoria; two daughters, Joyce Briggs of Astoria and Cindy (and Randy) Constable of Rushville; two sisters, Willadean Shaffer and Estyl (and Jake) McCombs, both of Astoria; one brother, Wendell “Tuffy” Danner of Rushville; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

His first job was working in the mechanic shop at Camp Ellis in Ipava. He went on to work as a coal miner. He worked at Astoria Body Corporation and as a welder at Fiber Steel in Astoria.

He served on the Astoria Town Board for 25 years.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Ben Murray officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Oncology Department at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville or the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
