Wendell E. “Tuffy” Danner, 89, of Rushville died at 10 p.m. Jan. 4, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Astoria, a son of late Lester and Lola Shawgo Danner.
Surviving are one daughter, Karen Danner of Rushville; one sister, Willadean Shaffer of Astoria; one grandson, Keith (and Michel) DeMoss of Rushville; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, T.J. DeMoss; one sister, Estyle “PeeWee” Gunter; three brothers, Dewayne “Shorty Bill” Danner, Lorney Danner and infant Willis Danner.
He delivered papers and helped load delivery trucks as a young boy and started a painting business with his brother Lorney painting houses, barns and businesses in the surrounding counties in their spare time away from their full-time jobs. He worked at International Harvester in Canton as a spray painter for several years where he received many accommodations. He later transferred to Indianapolis when International became Navistar as a fork truck operator until he retired in 1996.
He was a past member of the Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007, Rushville Moose Lodge #506 and several bowling leagues throughout the years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Stacy Tomich officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the Rushville Little League or Culbertson Hospital Cardiac Rehab.
