She was born March 26, 1931, in Astoria, a daughter of Lester and Lola Shawgo Danner. She married Fred Gunter Jr. on Nov. 19, 1949, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1975. She later married Lawrence “Jake” McCombs on Nov. 1, 1989, in Astoria. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2020.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Loren and Dwayne “Shorty Bill” Danner; and two infant siblings.
Surviving are four sons, Dan (and Bonnie) Gunter of Havana, Tim Gunter of Roseville, Tom (and Eric Gore) Gunter of West Peoria and Jim (and Tammy) Gunter of Alexis; one stepson, Jeff (and Brandi) McCombs of Peoria; one stepdaughter, Pam McCombs of Peoria; one sister, Willadean Shaffer of Astoria; one brother, Wendell “Tuffy” Danner of Rushville; nine grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
She worked at Astoria Healthcare Center and was a Librarian at the Astoria Public Library.
She was a member of Astoria Christian Church and the Astoria American Legion Auxiliary.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Astoria Cemetery with Pastor Matthew Thiner officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
