Mary BeamMary Edith Beam, 95, of Smithfield died at 11:10 a.m. March 3, 2016, at Red Oaks Estate in Canton.

She was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, a daughter of Hiram and Nellie Shawgo Beatty. She married Lundry Beam on Feb. 16, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1996.

She also was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Lori Fulton, Matthew Howard and Aaron Beam; and one sister, Midra Markley.

Surviving are two sons, Larry (and Celia) Beam and Terry (and Sherry) Beam, both of Cuba; one daughter, Linda (and Eldon) Howard of Ipava; two brothers, Charlie Beatty of East Peoria and Carroll (and Mary Ellen) Beatty of Cuba; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was a clerk and postmistress at Smithfield, retiring in 1985 after 36 years of service.

She was a member of Smithfield Church of the Nazarene, Fulton County Home Extension, the Neighborly Circle in Smithfield and the National League of Postmasters.

Services were held Monday at her church with Pastor Dean Potts officiating. Burial was in Baughman Cemetery in Smithfield. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
