Hiram Beatty, 71, Dies Following Brief Illness

Hiram Scott Beatty, 71, Astoria, died late Sunday evening in the Culbertson hospital in Rushville where he had been admitted Sunday morning following a brief illness.

Mr. Beatty was born near Summum on December 18, 1890, a son of Daniel and Mary Ralstin Beatty. He was married to Nellie Shawgo in Ipava on May 17, 1914. She survives.

A farmer in the Cuba and Astoria areas during most of his lifetime, Mr. Beatty had resided in Astoria the past several years. He was a member of the Astoria Christian Church.

Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Midra Markley of DeLong, and Mrs. Edith Beam of Smithfield; two sons, Charlie Lee Beatty of East Peoria, and Carroll Beatty of Rushville; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Astoria Christian Church with the Rev. Forrest Wise officiating. Burial will be in the Ipava Cemetery. Friends may call at the Shawgo Memorial Home and at the church one hour before the services.
