Bernard G. Beekman, 92, of Havana Health Care, formerly of Astoria, died at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

He was born June 28, 1909, in Enion, a son of John "Lute" and Laura O'Donnell Beekman. He married Marie Brillhart in October 1949. She died Aug. 2, 1963. He married Esther Bucher on May 9, 1964, in Havana. She survives.

Also surviving are two stepsons, Delmar (and Betty) Bucher of Astoria and William Brillhart of Florida; one stepdaughter, Mable Lou (and William) Brown of Havana; eight step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; five step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Geneva Lockard of Havana; and one brother, Willis (and Marge) of Ipava.

He also was preceded in death by one sister and one step-great-grandson.

A World War II Army veteran, he served as a corporal in the 2nd Infantry Division in the European Theater. He was a member of American Legion Post 25 and Laborers Local 232 in Pekin.

He was a farmer and construction worker.

He was a member of Astoria United Methodist Church.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Cliff Parry officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery.
