LAURA LUELLA (O’DONNELL) BEEKMAN

Mrs. Laura Beekman Dies Thursday Evening

Mrs. Laura Luella Beekman, 81, a life-time resident of the Summum and Astoria vicinity, died late Thursday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clifton Lockard, after a lengthy illness.

She was born Aug. 31, 1879, in Kerton township, a daughter of John and Lydia Brewer O’Donnell. She was married to John L. Beekman on Jan. 15, 1903 who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Bernard Beekman of Astoria, Willis Beekman of Ipava, and one daughter, Mrs. Geneva Lockard of Havana. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Anna Bloyd of Lewistown, and a number of nieces and nephews.

One daughter, Mrs. Maxine Bricker, a granddaughter, Carol Ann Bricker, four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

Mrs. Beekman’s greatest ambition in life was to have her home livable and to be active and busy in life. She was a good friend and neighbor to all who came in contact with her. Being a farmer’s wife and living on the farm much of her active years, she was greatly interested in the well being of those about her.

The day was long, the burden I had borne, seemed heavier that I could longer bear, and then it lifted — but I did not know some one had knelt in prayer.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Summum Christian church with the pastor, Rev. Eugene Reynolds in charge. Burial was in Summum cemetery.
