Esther Beekman

Esther M. Bucher Beekman, 95, of Havana died at 6:05 a.m. May 5, 2007, at Havana Healthcare Center in Havana.

She was born March 14, 1912, in Astoria, a daughter of David Grant and Maria Lue Smith Ewing. She married Lester E. Bucher on March 17, 1928, in Astoria. He died April 6, 1963. She later married Bernard Beekman on May 9, 1964, in Havana. He died Aug. 30, 2001.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Maude Schoene; and three brothers, Don, Dewey and Elmer Ewing.

Surviving are one son, Delmar (and Betty) Bucher of Astoria; one daughter, Mabel Lou (and William) Brown of Astoria; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and worked at Gain Greenhouse and Kost Drug Store, both in Astoria.

She was a member of Fulton County HEA and Woodland Church of the Brethren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the memorial home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in rural Astoria.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Rescue Squad or Havana Healthcare Center activity fund.
