Demise of Mrs. Catherine Barnes; Funeral Friday

Mrs. Mary Catharine Ebbert-Barnes, died at her home in Astoria Wednesday morning of last week, after one week of illness, from pneumonia, aged 55 years, 6 months and 8 days.

The deceased was born August 31, 1866, in Summum and was the daughter of George and Savilla Ebbert. She was united in marriage with W. M. Barnes, Aug. 28, 1898, at Summum, where she and her husband resided until about ten years ago when they moved to Astoria. Her husband preceded her in death September 24, 1917.

The deceased united with the Reformed church at Summum at the age of 16 years and remained a faithful worker in that church until February 5, 1922, when she united with the United Brethren church at Astoria. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge and at the time of her death was chaplain of the order.

Mrs. Barnes leaves to mourn her death five brothers and one sister, namely: Mrs. Anna Huff, Summum, Samuel Ebbert, John Ebbert, Frank Ebbert, all of Ipava, William Ebbert of California, and Emery Ebbert of La Porte, Ind., and a number of nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the residence Friday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. Ella Niswonger. Interment in the Astoria cemetery.
