David Earl Anderson, 89, of rural Browning died at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.

He was born Oct. 26, 1916, in Beardstown, a son of David H. and Alma Laura (Anderson) Anderson. He married Bessie Lela Ethridge on Oct. 16, 1941, in Tower Hill. She died Jan. 30, 2001.

He also was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond and David Jr.; three sisters, Dorothy Logan, Mildred Lafhaski and Virginia Moore; and three brothers, Franklin, Arthur and Alfred.

Surviving are two sons, Donald (and Julie) of Springfield, Ohio, and Larry (and LaTrisha) of Browning/Urbana, Ohio; one daughter Ruth (and Rodney) Simpson of Astoria; three sisters, Vivian (and Aubrey) Haare of Mesa, Ariz., Viola (and Jim) Quisenberry of Rushville and Irene Curless of Astoria; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army with the 957th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II.

He was a farmer at Black Oak, and a trucker for Pennington Crossarm Co. in Beardstown and Astoria Fibra-Steel, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of Astoria American Legion Post #25 and the local UAW of Astoria.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beardstown City Cemetery with Robert Spencer officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.

Memorials may be made to Heritage Manor South in Beardstown.
