Arthur Wherley, Former Resident Dies Monday

Arthur Wherley, 68, former Astoria resident, died early Monday morning in his home at Bartonville where he had resided for the past six months. He had been ill for the past two weeks.

Mr. Wherley was born in Astoria on Dec. 7, 1891, a son of Edward and Susan Burgard Wherley. He was married to Nellie Ruth on Dec. 7, 1912. She preceded him in death on January, 1941. On April 12, 1941, he was married to Irene Arnett in Lewistown, who survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Grace Marie Meyers of Chicago, one step-daughter, Mrs. Dixie Miller of Crawfordsville, Ind., two step-grandchildren, five brothers, Joe of Table Grove, Pius of Macomb, Homer and Ralph of Los Angeles, Calif., and John of Canton. One son and one brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Wherley was a member of the Astoria Church of the Brethren. He was an elevator operator at the Danner elevator in Astoria for many years. For the past 8 years he had been manager of the Cuba elevator until moving to Bartonville six months ago.

Funeral services were held this afternoon in the Shawgo Memorial Home with Rev. Edwin Rodabaugh officiating. Burial was in the Woodland cemetery.

Mrs. Shirley McCombs was organist. Pallbearers were Addison Gibble, Orvie Kessler, Perry Gain, Jess Wherley, Jase Schisler and Robert Etter.
