Norman D. Thomas, 57, of Marquette Heights died at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born June 24, 1948, in Canton, a son of Tommy D. and Betty Lou Orwig Thomas. He married Brenda Tarvin on June 19, 1970, in East Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Shawna Thomas of Marquette Heights; one son, Bryan of Marquette Heights; one sister, Christina Morris of Astoria; and six brothers, Steve (and Kay) of Virginia; Mike and Philip, both of Astoria, Dean (and Cheryl) of Jackson, David (and Cheryl) of Vermont, and Stanley (and Brenda) of New Castle, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of New Pekin AMVETS.

He was a part-time attendant at Super Wash in Pekin and worked as a machinist at Caterpillar Inc. in Mossville for 30 years until retiring in 2001. He was a lifetime member of United Auto Workers Local 974.

Services were held Saturday at Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin with Rev. George Walker officiating. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites were conducted by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
