Michael E. Thomas, 70, of Astoria died at 3:10 a.m. Nov. 16, 2022, at his son’s home in East Peoria.
He was born Oct. 29, 1952, in Canton, a son of Tommy and Betty Lou Orwig Thomas.
Surviving are his two children, Jonathan (and Lindsey) Thomas of East Peoria and Jackie (and Joe) Surratt of Avondale, Colo.; four brothers, Steven Thomas of Beardstown, Stanley Thomas of Indiana, Phillip Thomas of Astoria and David Thomas of Vermont; one sister, Christina Morris of Astoria; and two grandchildren. He also is survived by Matt Morgan, who was like a son to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Norman Thomas and Dean Thomas.
He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for several years.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany while he was in the service.
He was a member of the Shriners and the Masonic Lodge in Beardstown.
A graveside service was held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Woodland Cemetery in Astoria with Mike Shirley officiating. A military service also was provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
