VeteranGaylen Thompson Dies at Age 42

MANITO — Gaylen B. Thompson, 42, of RR 1, Manito, died Wednesday morning in Pekin Memorial Hospital, after becoming ill while at work in Corn Products, Co.

He was born Aug. 11, 1922, at Summum, a son of Oscar and Ida Lau Thompson and married Verna Brown March 7, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo.

He is survived by his widow; his mother, of Summum; five sons, George in Atlanta, Ga., with the armed forces, Kenneth, Ronnie, Michael, Gary, and one daughter, Patricia, all at home; three brothers, Ralph of Lewistown, Benjamin of West De Pere, Wisc., and Marshall of Browning; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Sager of Astoria, and Mrs. Verna Malott of Roann, Ind.; and three grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Manito, the Rev. Walter Schwane officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Johnson Funeral Home, Manito, 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and at the church after 11 a.m. Saturday.
