She was born Feb. 25, 1932, in Terre Haute, a daughter of Gale and Theda Drain Powell. She married Ernest D. Shanks on Feb. 4, 1951, in Brooklyn. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2021.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Duane Kenneth Shanks; and two granddaughters, Bambi Shanks and Georgia Ann Duckwiler.
Surviving are four daughters, Vicky (and Dean) Conway, Anni Mitchell and Roberta (and Chris) McCormick, all of Astoria, and Phyllis (and Rick) Batterton of Ipava; four sisters; one brother; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker. Ernest and Jeannine were Camp Emmanuel Managers from 1975-84. They owned and operated Evergreen Hygro Systems in Astoria, where she was the bookkeeper. She also was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren, Astoria Quilt Society and spent several years assisting at the South Fulton Senior Center in Astoria.
Graveside services were held Saturday in the Blackburn Cemetery in Brooklyn with her grandson, Jim Grossnickle-Batterton and Pastor Lisa Fike officiating.
Memorials may be made to Woodland Church of the Brethren or the South Fulton Senior Center in Astoria.
