Duane Shanks

Duane K. Shanks, 48, of Vermont was pronounced dead at 12:31 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at 20620 N. 300 Road near Vermont after he was electrocuted by a downed power line.

He was born Nov. 18, 1951, in Macomb, the son of Ernest and Jeannine Powell Shanks.

Surviving are his parents of Astoria; one son, Brandon of Vermont; two daughters, Jamie (and Robert) Brockley of Astoria and Billie (and Kenneth) Haynes of Mount Sterling; three grandchildren; and four sisters, Vicky (and Dean) Conway of Roseville, and Phyllis (and Rick) Batterton, Annie (and Wayne) Mitchell and Roberta (and Chris) McCormick, all of Astoria.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bambi Sue.

He was a farmer. He also was employed as a truck driver for Onion Farms in Industry and had previously worked for Phoebus Trucking.

He was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren in Astoria.

Services were held today at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Vernon Dean officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.
