Theda Powell

Theda I. Powell, 79, of Rushville, died 4:06 a.m. Monday, March 6, 1995, at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

She was born on August 22, 1915, in Henderson County, Illinois, a daughter of the late Pearl and Ella (Gilliland) Drain. She married Gale Powell on August 20, 1931 in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1989.

Surviving are two sons, Dick Powell and Bob Powell, both of Rushville; five daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Jeannine) Shanks of Astoria, Mrs. Merle (Ruth Ann) Horwedel of Buda, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Brown of Rushville, Mrs. Richard (Kay) McClelland of Springfield, Mo. and Mrs. Morris (Cindee) McClelland of Rushville; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Edna Pearl Powell; one son, William Gaylord Powell; one sister, Marie Drain and three brothers, William, Walter and Elzie Drain.

She was a slicer at Mickelberry’s in Rushville and also cooked at various restaurants from 1972 until she retired in 1986. She was a member of the Brooklyn United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel in Rushville with Rev. William Hesseldenz officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackburn Cemetery at Brooklyn. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wood-Roby Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Brooklyn United Methodist Church.
