Opal StambaughOpal M. Stambaugh, 89, of Summum died at 6:55 a.m. Aug. 8, 2015, at Havana Healthcare Center.

She was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Vermont, a daughter of Ernest W. and Grace M. Dutton Hopping. She married Wayne D. Stambaugh on Oct. 24, 1945, in Schuyler County. He preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1997.

She also was preceded in death by three sons, Max Stambaugh and two infants; two sisters, Emma Root and Betty June Hopping; and three brothers, Cliford Hopping, Miner Hopping and an infant.

Surviving are one daughter, Rosemary (and Larry) Mason of Ipava; one sister, Melba Davis of Bardolph; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker. She also did housekeeping for area homes and worked as a sorter for the Mummert Seed Company in Astoria.

She was a member of Summum Christian Church and the Astoria American Legion Auxiliary.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Ken Peterson officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
