Wayne D. Stambaugh, 72, of Astoria, died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997, at his home.

He was born July 3, 1925, in Astoria, a son of Cleve C. and Nellie Derry Stambaugh. He married Opal Hopping on Oct. 24, 1945, in Schuyler County. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Max Stambaugh of Astoria; one daughter, Rosemary Lawver of Astoria; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard and Larry, both of Astoria.

He was preceded in death by two infant sons, one sister and one brother.

He was a laborer for Ipava Elevator in Ipava for 35 years. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Tim Worstell officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Spoon River Hospice Association.
