Lorene Sullivan

Lorene E. Sullivan, 89, of Galesburg died at 3:10 p.m. Jan. 14, 2011, at Cottage Hospital.

She was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Fulton County, a daughter of Loren and Mary Leonard Trone. She married Willis W. Sullivan on June 1, 1941. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1979.

She also was preceded in death by one son and one sister.

Surviving are two sons, Donald Sullivan and Charles Sullivan, both of Galesburg; one daughter, Janice Sullivan of Peoria; one brother, Charles W. Trone of Rushville; one sister, Marifrances Ralston of Beardstown; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Astoria High School in 1940.

She helped her husband farm and also worked at Galesburg State Research Hospital in the clothing department for 20 years, retiring in 1981.

She was a volunteer at Cottage Hospital and Community Foundation over 25 years covering 9,000 hours.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she was a member of Methodist Women holding various offices; Knox County Artist Guild; and a 4-H Club Leader for three years and advisor for nine years. She also volunteered at Galesburg Chamber of Commerce as a step-on guide; the Red Cross for six years; and a Gallup poll worker for five years. She helped judge DAR essays for 30 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at her church at the corner of Knox and Day St. in Galesburg with Rev. Linda Harris officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
