Charles W. “C.W.” Trone, 90, of Rushville died at 8:37 a.m. Jan. 7, 2025, at his home.
He was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Astoria, the son of Loren and Mary Etta Leonard Trone. He married Agnes Holmes on June 22, 1955, in Germany. She preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 1995.
He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Lorene Sullivan, Freda Kettering-Tatman and Marifrances Ralston.
Surviving are two sons, Charles W. (and Jill) Trone Jr. of Beardstown and Kevin Trone of Astoria; one daughter, Teresa Shembarger of Pleasant Plains; his companion, Diane Dean of Astoria; two nephews; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He served in the United States Army from 1953-56 with a rank of Specialist 2.
He was a jack of all trades. He farmed, was a machinist at L and N Industries in Rushville, worked for Larry Derry’s Shop in Astoria, worked for the Railroad and at numerous service stations in Astoria, including Bair and Butler’s 66 on Broadway.
He was a member of the VFW and Astoria American Legion Post #25. He was also a member of the NRA.
Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Fred Fritz officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25.
