Helen Snowden

Helen D. Snowden, 101, of Astoria died at 5 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born Jan. 24, 1907, in Astoria, a daughter of James M. and Mabel L. Foster Derry. She married Lloyd Emmet Snowden on Feb. 29, 1924.

Surviving are one son, Lloyd (and Wanda) Snowden of Canton; two daughters, Doris Connolly of Astoria and Lois (and Jerry) Meehan of Malibu, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, James Snowden; two brothers, Herschel and Herman Derry; and two sisters, Hazel Mitchell and Hildreth Powell.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Rebekah Lodge of Vermont for over 50 years, and Astoria United Methodist Church.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with David Little officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church, Astoria Rescue Squad or Culbertson Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.
