Gerald Sipes

Gerald A. Sipes, 78, of Rushville, died at 10:50 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 1995, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home.

He was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Bosworth, Mo., a son of Clifford and Mabel Pennington Sipes. He married Lulu J. Lashbrook on July 13, 1945 in Pleasant View. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Gerald M. “Marley” Sipes, Jerry Lee Sipes and Steven Earl Sipes, all of Rushville, and Sam A. Sipes of Beardstown; four daughters, Teena Woodruff and LuCinda Sipes, both of Rushville, Paula Scego of Browning and Tammy Workman of Frederick; two brothers, Floyd Sipes of Duluth, Minn., and Sam Sipes of Beardstown; three sisters, Florence Kelly of Charleston, Francellia Sweeney of Moline and Mary Heflin of Vermont; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Four brothers, one sister, one grandson and one granddaughter preceded him in death.

He was a member of Laborers Union Local 253 and retired in 1989. He was a member of Rushville Moose Lodge 506.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Kirkham officiating. Burial was in Christian Neck Cemetery, northeast of Rushville.
