Marvin McCormickMarvin L. McCormick, 89, of Macomb, formerly of Ipava, died at 12:40 p.m. Oct. 30, 2015, at Wesley Village in Macomb.

He was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Astoria Township, Fulton County, a son of Vern Roy and Adah Fern Bankes McCormick. He married Mary Alene Robinson on June 10, 1950, in Ipava. She preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 1992. He later married Irma Loreine Ladd on March 19, 1994, in Ipava. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2015.

He also was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Carissa McCormick; two infant sisters; and three brothers, Merlin, Norman and Melvin McCormick.

Surviving are one daughter, Marsha (and Dave Maguire) McCormick of Macomb; one son, Marlin (and Evelyn) McCormick of Monroe City, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy (and Lyle) Arnett of Lewistown; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

He began farming in Ipava in 1953 and farmed his entire lifetime. He was a good steward of the land and was awarded the Outstanding Conservation Farm of the Year award in 1991 by the Illinois Land Improvement Contractors Association.

He served on the Board of Directors of the Ipava State Bank for 45 years, retiring in January of 2015. He was an active member of Ipava United Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon, trustee and on various committees throughout his life. He served as trustee for the Ipava Fire Protection District.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at his church with Pastor Danie DeBeer officiating. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
