Melvin McCormick

Melvin W. McCormick, 90, of East Peoria died at 7:25 a.m. Dec. 12, 2013, at his home.

He was born Aug. 27, 1923, in Astoria, a son of Vern and Adah Bankes McCormick. He married Josephine Oldfield on July 10, 1949, in Peoria. She passed away on May 8, 2005. He then married Frances Ausmus on July 5, 2005, in Mackenzie, Tenn. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Gary (and Mary) McCormick of Huntington, Tenn.; one brother, Marvin (and Irma) McCormick of Ipava; one sister, Dorothy (and Lyle) Arnett of Lewistown; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Merlin McCormick; and two infant sisters, Doris McCormick and unnamed.

He was owner and operator of Mel’s Service Station in East Peoria and Wismer Court Motel in Camden, Tenn.

He was a member of Blinded and Disabled Veterans of America.

He was an Army veteran from 1946-47, serving in 881st Ordnance Company.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Astoria.
