Louise GaleLouise Gale, 97, of Vermont, died at 12:20 a.m. July 4, 2013, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

She was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Bernadotte, a daughter of Claude Emmitt and Ethel Mae Furniss Batterton. She married Truman Gale on Feb. 19, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Norma Weishaar of Browning and Donna (and David) Thome of Lewistown; one son, David (and Arlene) Gale of Ipava; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one special friend, Wandalee Shields of Vermont.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil, Russell, Junior and Harold Batterton; and one sister, Betty McLaren.

She farmed with her husband. She then worked in food service at several locations.

She was a member of Vermont United Methodist Church where she was church superintendent for many years. She helped organize church suppers, bazaars and dinners. She was a member of United Methodist Women, a charter member of Carroll Rankin American Legion Auxiliary and a member of Vermont Fire Department Women's Group.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Robert Greene officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
