Harold Batterton Dies Suddenly

Harold E. “Shorty” Batterton, 68, of 310 Cole St., Bushnell, died at 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 1980 at the American Legion Home in Rushville of an apparent heart attack.

Formerly of Astoria, Mr. Batterton was a retired farmer, was the owner of Shorty’s Leather Shop and was employed as a bus driver by the Bushnell-Prairie City School District. He was a member of the Rushville and Macomb saddle clubs.

He was born Oct. 13, 1912, near Astoria, a son of Claude and Ethel (Furniss) Batterton. He married Flora Groff May 18, 1935 in Wayland, Mo.

Surviving are his wife of Bushnell; his mother of Astoria; one son, Larry of London Mills; one daughter, Mrs. Wilma Burgard of Metamora; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Louise Gale of Vermont; and three brothers, Cecil of Astoria, and Russell and Junior, both of Ipava.

His father, one sister and one grandchild preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Shawgo Memorial Home at Astoria with Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery.
