Russel E. Batterton, 75, of Cuba, died at 10:34 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He had been a patient at the hospital for about three weeks after being involved in an auto accident near Farmington.

He was born May 21, 1917 in Schuyler County, a son of Claude and Ethel Furnis Batterton. He married Jenevieve Powell and she preceded him in death on Apr. 24, 1990. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

He is survived by one daughter, Brenda Clark of Villa Park; two grandsons; one sister, Louise Gale of Vermont; and several nieces and nephews.

He retired in 1990 from Caterpillar where he last worked as a laborer. He served in the Army during WWII and was held as P.O.W. for 17 months. He was a member of the Russell Smith American Legion Post at Cuba and also a member of U.A.W. Local 974.
