MARIA (PRATHER) GARTON

Mrs. L. L. Garton Called By Death Funeral Sunday

Mrs. Lincoln L. Garton, a highly respected and well known lady, died at her home in South Woodland, last Thursday, aged 60 years, 7 months and 22 days. Death was due to cancer.

Maria Prather, daughter of Rezin and Rebecca Prather, was born in Woodland township March 27, 1866.

She was united in marriage March 2nd 1886, to Lincoln Garton of Kenney, Ill., DeWitt county. To this union was born two children, Clem Garton, of Lincoln, Ill., and Grayce Humphrey of Kenney, Ill.

A cousin, Andrew Easley of Vermont, was reared in their home from childhood to manhood, whom with the aged husband she leaves to mourn her departure, also eight grandchildren.

Surviving sisters are Mrs. Della Kays and Mrs. Anna Davis of Woodland township. Also two brothers, Upton of Astoria and William, of Ray. Mrs. Margaret Kingery, of Ashland, Nebr., is a half sister, also a half brother, Preston Prather of Astoria. Two sisters, Mrs. Allie Moose and Mrs. Gertie McKinley preceded her in death in recent years.

She was converted and united with the United Brethren church at Motes Chapel in early married life and always lived a consistent Christian life.

Her illness extended over several month's duration, but she bore it with patient fortitude until she fell asleep in Jesus arms.

Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church in Astoria, Sunday at 1:00 o'clock, by the pastor Rev. W. R. Seitzinger and interment in the Astoria cemetery.
