Mrs. Grace Humphrey Dies In Hospital

Mrs. Grace F. Humphrey, 71, passed away early Tuesday morning in the Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. She had been in failing health for the past several years. Mrs. Humphrey had lived most of her life in the Astoria area.

Born July 5, 1891, in Woodland Township, she was a daughter of Lincoln L. and Maria Prather Garton. She was married to Harold W. Humphrey on Dec. 25, 1920 in Clayton, Mo. He survives.

Other survivors include one son, Athol O. Humphrey of Peoria; one daughter, Mrs. Rosemary Trowbridge of East Peoria; and five grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death.

Until failing health caused her to be unable to continue, Mrs. Humphrey was a correspondent for the Argus-Searchlight. She served in this capacity faithfully for more than 50 years, always standing ready to report the news from her locality. She was also a school teacher in the local area for 12 years.

She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Astoria where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. Rev. H. L. Leu and Rev. David Flood will officiate. Burial will be in the Astoria Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria until 1 p.m. Friday and after 1 p.m. at the church.
