Well Known Resident Dies

Upton Prather Died Thursday In Beardstown Hospital; Funeral Sunday

Upton Prather, a life long resident of this vicinity, died at the Beardstown hospital Thursday, aged 75 years, 6 months and 12 days.

Upton G. Prather, son of Resin and Rebekah Prather, was born in Fulton county, Feb. 18, 1862. He was united in marriage to Miss Mahalia McKinley on March 2, 1892. To this union one child was born, Orville, in Astoria. His wife died five years ago.

Besides his son, he is survived by one brother, William, of Ray, and one sister, Mrs. John Davis of Woodland, also one grandchild.

Mr. Prather spent most of his life farming in Woodland township, retiring five years ago. He moved to Astoria. He served one term on the village council.

Mr. Prather was an honest, upright citizen and was respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the U. B. church, conducted by Rev. Fred Thompson. Interment in the Astoria Memorial Mausoleum.
