MADELLA (PRATHER) KAYS

Mrs. Madella Kays Woodland Twp. Died Saturday

Mrs. Madella Kays died at her home in Woodland township Saturday, following an illness of several months duration. She was aged 58 years, 7 months and 18 days.

Madella Prather, daughter of Rezin and Rebecca Prather, was born in Fulton county, Ill., Jan. 29, 1869. Nov. 16, 1890, she was united in marriage to Frank P. Kays of Granville, Pa., who preceded her in death four years ago. To this union were born three sons and two daughters, namely: Karmy K. of Beardstown, Katherine D. Kays, Frank P. Kays and Della Marie Kays at home. One son having died in infancy. Beside her grandchildren, she leaves to mourn her death, one sister and two brothers, namely, Mrs. Anna Davis, Upton Prather of Astoria and Wm. Prather of Vermont, a half sister, Mrs. Margaret Kingery of Lincoln, Nebr., and a half brother Preston Prather of Astoria.

Early in life she accepted Christ as her leader in a revival at Motes Chapel. Her christian life was one of great faith and nowhere was she ashamed to express her belief.

The loss of a friend is regrettable but no loss is so great as that of a mother. Her life was so beautifully sacrificial, especially significant in serving the needs of her children and friends. One to be greatly missed in the home and surrounding neighborhood. She was a member of the Pythian Sister lodge at Astoria.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 o'clock at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. L. A. Crown of Bloomington and assisted by Rev. LaVerne Barkley. Interment in Astoria cemetery. The Pythian Sisters had charge of the funeral.
