John David Elliott, 59, of Littleton, formerly of Chicago, died at 12:12 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Aug. 1, 1945, in Chicago, a son of Sidney W. and Florence A. Harris Elliott. He married Jill A. Davis on Aug. 23, 1969, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, David (and Colleen), Terry (and Liana) and Josey (and Mandi), all of Chicago; two brothers, Daniel (and Peggy) of Collinsville and Dennis of Carpentersville; two sisters, Nancy (and Kent) Thomas and Sharon Dodd, both of Vermont; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Kenneth.

He was a Vietnam War Navy veteran, and a member of the Vermont American Legion.

He graduated from City Colleges of Chicago.

He was a patrolman for the city of Chicago for 28 years, retiring in 2000. He then was chief of police in Vermont.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police and Rushville Moose Lodge 708.

Services were held Monday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Richard Pricco officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery, where military rites were accorded by his American Legion post.

Memorials may be made to the Schuyler County Ambulance and Rescue Squad.
