Richard Easley

Richard EasleyRichard J. Easley, 67, of Astoria died at 6:41 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Beardstown, a son of Frank J. and Hettie M. Walters Easley. He married Linda Poppenhager on Oct. 3, 1953, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Shelly Saunders of Ocala, Fla.; three sons, Jay (and Sally) of Reddick, Fla., and Rich (and Gayle) and Kyle (and Jill) both of Astoria; two brothers, Jim (and Brenda) of Petersburg and Ed (and Pat) of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Antonino and Jakob; and one brother, Don.

He was a coal miner for Amax Coal Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of UMWA Local 1337 and UMWA District 12, 1791.

He was a member of Vermont Masonic Lodge 116 AF&AM and ANSAR Shrine Temple, Valley of Springfield.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home with Rev. Marian Stone officiating. Burial was in Summum Cemetery in Summum.
