Herbert Blickenstaff

Herbert Blickenstaff, 85, of Browning died at 2:05 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Astoria, a son of Joseph L. and Annie Bucher Blickenstaff. He married Verna Farwell on May 11, 1941, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Pat (and Charles) Huston of Macomb and Carol (and Dale) Cassel of Pekin; two sons, Herbert Jr. (and Eileen) and David (and Marilyn), both of Browning; two sisters, Mary Palmer of Astoria and Grace Brown of Phoenix; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert; one sister, Josephine Myers; and two brothers, Wilbur and Roy.

He farmed for over 50 years and also worked for Cargill Seed Co., retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Bader Christian Church in Bader, where he served as an elder.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Shane Traughber and Bob Spencer officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in rural Astoria.
