MARY E. (BLICKENSTAFF) PALMER

Mary Palmer

Mary E. Palmer, 89, of Astoria died at 12:53 a.m. Nov. 18, 2008, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center.

She was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Browning Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of Joseph L. and Annie Bucher Blickenstaff. She married William C. Palmer on April 27, 1941, in Astoria. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1990.

She also was preceded in death by one grandson, Charles W. Palmer Jr.; one sister, Josephine Myers; and three brothers, Wilbur, Roy and Herbert Blickenstaff Sr.

Surviving are two sons, Joe H. (and Lois) Palmer of Vermont and Charles W. (and Mary I.) Palmer of Rushville; one daughter, Anna Lee (and Rick) Woods of Greenville; one sister, Grace Brown of Aurora; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She farmed with her husband and was a homemaker.

She volunteered at Astoria Gardens and drove the Red Cross van in Astoria.

She was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at her church with Pastor Greg Beach officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Gardens or donor’s choice.
