William Palmer Dies Unexpectedly

William C. Palmer, 72, of Astoria died at 1:08 a.m. Sunday, July 8, 1990, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born March 29, 1918, in Lyons, Neb., a son of Henry and Laura Siler Palmer. He married Mary E. Blickenstaff on April 27, 1941, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Charles W. of Ipava and Joe H. of Vermont; one daughter, Mrs. Rick (Anna Lee) Woods of Collinsville; his stepmother, Mrs. Clarine Palmer of Lewistown; two half-sisters, Mrs. Dale (Shirley) McCance of Ipava and Mrs. Richard (Maxine) Loose of Portland, Ore.; three half-brothers, Carroll Palmer and Roger Palmer, both of Lewistown, and Everett Palmer of Milwaukie, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Charles William Palmer, Jr.

He farmed most of his adult life before retiring in 1986. He also retired in 1979 from International Harvester in Canton, where he worked for 24 years.

He was a member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren in Astoria where he served as deacon over 30 years.

He also served as a Volunteer at the South Fulton Senior Citizen Center delivering meals and driving the van.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. this morning at his church with Rev. John O. Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery near Astoria. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
