Dale McCance

Dale Allen McCance, 68, of Lewistown died at midnight Friday, July 1, 2005, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born March 1, 1937, in Smithfield, a son of Dale C. and Lorraine Wheeler McCance. He married Shirley Palmer on June 20, 1959, in Smithfield. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, James and Charles, both of Lewistown; his stepmother, Mary McCance of Smithfield; four sisters, Linda Shaver of Wilcox, Ariz., Sue (and David) Roberts of Cuba, Arlene (and Harold) Ford of Geneseo and Darlene English of East Peoria; and two brothers, John (and Sue) of Cuba and Bob (and Sherry) of Marietta.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

He worked for the T. P. & W. Railroad for several years. He then worked in the maintenance department of Dickson Mounds Museum and later was a coal miner for Freeman United Coal Co. in Canton and Industry. He also mowed area cemeteries for several years.

He was a member of United Mine Workers of America.

Cremation has been accorded. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Smithfield Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield with Rev. Joe Tomich officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial of ashes will be in Baughman Cemetery in Smithfield. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to any charity.
