Charles Huston

Charles W. "Charlie" Huston, 68, of Macomb died at 8:34 a.m. Dec. 31, 2011, at McDonough District Hospital.

He was born Jan. 21, 1943, in Macomb, a son of Willie Alfonso and Ruby Edna Yvonne McGruder Huston. He married Pat A. Blickenstaff on Nov. 30, 1962, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey W. (and Charleen) Huston and Neil B. (and Stephanie) Huston, both of Macomb; two brothers, Ronnie (and Dee) Huston of Macomb and Mike (and Barb) Huston of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Debbie and Janice Huston, both of Macomb; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Tony Huston; and one sister, Amber Huston.

He graduated from Macomb High School in 1962.

He worked for Gale Products of Galesburg for 20 years and later worked for the City of Macomb until his retirement.

He was a member of Macomb Masonic Lodge No. 17 and Shriners International. He visited Shriners Hospital in Chicago many times, presenting them with proceeds raised from an annual ASA softball tournament held in the Quad Cities.

He was a longtime sports official for football, basketball, baseball and softball, including officiating an Illinois State Basketball Championship game and umpiring an Olympic team softball game held in Bloomington. He was inducted into Illinois ASA Hall of Fame in 2007.

Services were held Jan. 5, 2012, at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb. Masonic services also were held with Elder Raleigh Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
